CHANEL SUMMER 2014 LE VERNIS – PHOTOS, REVIEW & SWATCHES!
A few things, mainly work, has gotten in the way over the last few months but I’ve honestly missed blogging and making videos so I’m really looking forward to being back at it and hopefully better than ever.
The blog has been quiet but that hasn’t stopped my shopping habits or love for all things beauty so I’ll be armed with plenty of new content for next year. Would also love for you to let me know what you’d like to see on Miss J. Shopaholic as well 🙂
See you soon and in the meantime, follow me on Instagram to see what I’ve been up to!
I picked up 3 of the 5 shades in the collection and I must say they are hot, hot, hot! My picks were Sweet Lilac, Pink Tonic and Mirabella, and they are currently sitting among my all time favourite Chanel Le Vernis shades. Big call I know, but look at them! Way too pretty!
All three shades have a glossy cream finish with a subtle shimmer that reflects in the light. I also found the formulas to be very similar for each of the 3 shades and quite consistent with most of the Le Vernis range which is good. They apply light yet evenly onto the nail and are opaque with 2 coats. Lasting time is about 3-4 days without any chips. Love!
First up, we have Sweet Lilac (#615). A beautiful pale lavender shade with a soft pink tone to it. It’s a very feminine yet sophisticated shade, making it quite wearable for everyday. I’ve always been quite partial to pastel purple nail colours, and this one definitely takes the cake!
Next we have my favourite out of the 3, Pink Tonic (#619)! It is the most gorgeous, bright fuchsia pink. It’s the type of colour you can wear all year round, on your fingers or toes! I’ve been wearing it non-stop for the past couple of weeks and don’t see myself getting tired of it anytime soon. All you pink lovers out there, I guarantee you’ll adore this shade as much as I do!
Lastly I picked up Mirabella (#623). Honestly, I’m not usually a fan of orange shades, but totally had to make an exception for this one. It’s such a happy colour, that you can’t help but smile looking at it. Been rocking this one on my toes, even if they’re usually covered up by socks, tights and boots lol. Definitely can’t wait for sandals weather!
Seriously loving these 3 colours and highly recommend. They’re also Limited Edition, so if you’re tempted, I suggest you hop to it! Available now from all Chanel Beauty boutiques and counters or online, RRP AU$39/US$27.
Have you tried any of the Chanel Summer 2014 Le Vernis shades? Which are your favourite?
Hot Lips is a liquid lipstick formula, that is non-greasy and super longwearing. You can eat, drink and be merry for hours and your lip colour is just as strong as when you first applied it. The product applies wet but dries fast, and has an amazing creamy texture with a soft matte finish. The formula also contains power ingredients such as Prune Seed Extract, Candelilla Wax and Vitamin E to ensure lips are plump and moisturised.
It comes in the standard Ellis Faas packaging, which is a silver pen-like casing, it’s pretty cool albeit a little awkward. Let’s just say I’d never have it in my carryon when going through airport security! Pop open the lid, and you’ll see a sponge applicator with holes in it. Twist the base of the pen clockwise to dispense the product through the holes and apply it directly onto the lips (or use a lip brush if you prefer, but I’m often too lazy lol). Application is easy with the sponge tip, and it glides on like a breeze for even coverage. As it’s so pigmented, you only need the tiniest amount of product, I find 1-2 twists plenty. The product also has a fun, candy like smell so totally makes me smile whenever I put it on!
Ellis Faas Hot Lips in Bright Red L401
An amazing true red shade. Perfect for a statement lip that instantly brightens the face.
Ellis Faas Hot Lips in Rose Violet L406
A lovely mauve toned rosy pink. Quite a sophisticated shade that’s easy to wear, day or night.
The Ellis Faas Hot Lips range is permanent and available now from Mecca Cosmetica stores and online, RRP AU$49 each.
Rain & Angelica
A cool and rejuvenating fragrance that is a beautiful wakeup call reminiscent of the morning dew left by overnight rain. The scent is very fresh with hints of juicy citrus and a subtle earthy base of vetiver.
Wisteria & Violet
An enchanting floral scent which conjures up a picture of gentle morning showers. The floral is light and slightly sweet with the scent of fresh rain drops on violet petals, water lily and patchouli.
White Jasmine & Mint
This lively and refreshing scent mimics an afternoon burst of rain. The burst is one of joy filled with notes of jasmine and orange flower, plus the fresh and uplifting touches of mint and cucumber.
Black Cedar Wood & Juniper
Inspired by the darkness of a midnight rainstorm , this cologne is seductive yet comforting. Cumin, chilli leaves and juniper combined with cedar wood, give this fragrance an earthy yet modern twist.
The Jo Malone London Rain Collection is available now for a limited time at all Jo Malone counters and online. The four fragrances are available in the 100ml size, RRP AU$180 each.
The Estée Lauder Bronze Goddess Summer 2014 Collection is all about bringing out your inner summer goddess! The collection has an amazing focus on bronzed glowy skin, combined with bold vibrant shades on the eyes, lips and nails. Though the Winter season is upon us here in Melbourne, I definitely can’t help but daydream of a beautiful tropical island whenever I look at it – the bronze and metallic tones of the products definitely provide you with a statement makeup look and gives your skin a lovely warm, sun-kissed glow!
The Tom Ford Eye Defining Pen is a dual ended liquid eyeliner, featuring a fine calligraphy tip on one side and a felt-tip on the other. A liquid liner that offers two different types of application, say whaaat?! It’s pretty cool. I adore the calligraphy brush in particular and tend to use it more. It’s just amazing and seriously makes applying liquid eyeliner a breeze! You get smooth lines in an easy stroke and the colour is nicely pigmented so you always get a lovely precise and opaque line.
The other end has a felt tip applicator and is ideal for creating thicker lines, which is fabulous for those more dramatic looks. Honestly though, regardless of which brush end you use, both provide amazing definition that will enhance any look. They both glide on easily with continuously smooth application across the lid and zero tugging to the skin. The formula does take a few seconds to dry down, but once it sets, it does not budge, smudge or flake away for an outstanding 12 hours on me, but comes off easily with make up remover (I use Bioderma Crealine H2O).
The pen is packaged in Tom Ford’s signature mahogany gloss casing with gold accents, which I adore as it just exudes elegance. It’s also longer and slightly heavier than most eyeliners, but it’s well balanced so not awkward to hold. Being short sighted though usually means that I get pretty close to the mirror when applying eye make up, and therefore the length of the Pen would occasionally smash into the glass lol, but I’m getting used to it and know better now! At this stage the Eye Defining Pen is only available in the shade Deeper (01) which is a carbon black. Here’s hoping they release more shades as it has fast become one of my all time favourite liquid eyeliners!
Price-wise, at AU$75/US$55/£42.00, I will admit that the Eye Defining Pen is on the higher end of the spectrum. But hey, if you love luxury make up that delivers incredible results then I don’t think you can go wrong here. Try it out!
I was lucky to receive 3 of the 4 new eyeshadows with the Fall 2013 Collection, the colours being Yamal, Bavaria and Kamchatka. The 4th eyeshadow released is Namibia and is a matte grey shade. The name’s of the new eyeshadows also follow the NARS standard convention of naming after world cities, which I like. It’s kinda like learning at the same time – had you guys heard of Kamchatka before? It’s a stunning peninsula in east Russia!
